Sejal Sonani, AIA, serves as Principal at HLW and Managing Director for the firm’s California offices, overseeing operations in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Sejal has played a pivotal role in expanding HLW’s presence on the West Coast, cultivating a comprehensive practice with a strengthened focus on architecture and design.
Over recent years, she has spearheaded the management of more than 4 million square feet of projects in the region, while emphasizing the firm’s expertise in adaptive reuse, repositioning, master planning, mixed-use residential developments, and ground-up construction projects across California. Key projects include You Tube’s Campus in San Bruno, USC’s Lawrence Ellison Institute, adaptive re-use of former Macy’s store at West Side Pavilion, repositioning of Union Bank Plaza, several transit-oriented projects along LA’s Expo Line, aimed at creating vibrant, walkable, and prosperous communities anchored by sustainable mobility.
Sejal’s leadership has garnered recognition through numerous national and international awards, including accolades from AIA Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Conservancy, SCDF, LABJ, FX International, Architizer, and IIDA Caliber.
Beyond her impact at HLW, Sejal actively contributes to community impact projects, particularly in the realm of affordable housing, and advocates for equity in design.
