Winning Design for Loop Chair Adaptation Competition
Our London studio is pleased to announce that it has won first place in the MARK Product ‘Power of Ten’ Design Competition with their “Luminous Loop” chair. Displayed at Clerkenwell Design Week, the ‘Power of Ten’ exhibition highlighted the collaboration at the heart of the design and manufacturing process.
HLW’s innovative chair design, which was completed by team members Gavin Hughes, Jo Casselle and Pam D’Alessandro, was selected from a variety of design firms that were invited to participate in the competition. Each firm assembled a design team to tackle the challenge and were given the option to specify fabric supplied by Kvadrat to incorporate into their design, as well as digitally print or physically modify their chair as they saw fit.
“We are thrilled to have be announced as the winners and just goes to show that design is not only about aesthetics but also functionality.”
The HLW adaptation, aptly titled the “Luminous Loop,” enables the user to sit, work, relax, and recharge all in one comfortable place. The chair employs a variety of innovative design features, including a mounted reading light, equipped with a colour-changing bulb, which allows the user to choose a light level and colour to suit their task or mood. Other added elements include a custom side table equipped with a wireless charging unit and lighting controls, while still providing enough room for a notepad and refreshment. Lastly, a feature pocket on the back of the chair provides convenient extra storage. Upholstered in a vibrant “sprinkles” fabric, framed by a luminous orange hue, an element of fun is added to this otherwise sleek and functional chair. Considered as a whole, the “Luminous Loop” epitomizes the constant loop of work and play.
